Don’t worry. You do not have to use costly sprays and chemical cleansers. Actually, some of the solutions are next to your kitchen.

I will take you through easy, natural, and cheap methods of eliminating the smell of pets in your home. I will put it all across in a casual yet cordial manner--almost as to a friend.

Remove Pet Smell from House Naturally

The Question of Why Pet Smell Remains in the House.

It is worth understanding the problem before correcting it.

Pet smell usually comes from:

   • Fur and dander (dead skin)

   • Urine or accidents

   • Saliva and drool

   • Bedding and carpets

   • Poor ventilation

Although your home may be attractive, smell may be hiding in clothes, side corners and air.

I once had such a problem because my dog gave birth (new puppies = two times the mess) The smell remained even after washing on a daily basis. It was then that I started applying natural techniques- and frankly speaking, natural techniques worked better than chemical sprays.

1. Baking Soda – Your Best Friend

The natural deodoriser is using baking soda which is a simple and effective one.

How to use:

   • Pour it on carpets, sofas and mattresses.

   • Leave it for 15–30 minutes

   • Vacuum it properly

Why it works:

It does not only conceal bad odours.

Hint: Adding some necessary oil (such as lavender) is good to make a refreshing smell.

2. Odour Removal Vinegar Sprays.

White vinegar is good in the dissolution of pet smells.

DIY Spray:

   • 1 cup water

   • 1 cup white vinegar

   • Optional: Few drops of lemon juice

Mix in a spray bottle.

Where to use:

   • Floors

   • Tiles

   • Pet accident areas

   • Furniture (test first!)

Important: There is nothing much to worry about vinegar smell, it goes away when it gets dry.

3. Wash Pet Bedding Regularly

This is what a lot of individuals overlook.

There is much odor in pet beds, blankets and cushions.

What to do:

   • Wash weekly (minimum)

   • Wash dry

   • Add 1 cup vinegar.

   • Dry in Sun ( it is must )

Bacteria are naturally killed by sunlight and their odour is removed.

4. Keep Your Pet Clean

A clean pet = a fresh home.

Simple routine:

   • Bathe your pet every 2–3 weeks

   • Brush fur every day or no less than 3 times per week.

   • Clean paws after walks

💡Smell is also made worse in India by dust and humidity and therefore, grooming is essential.

5. Use Lemon and Citrus fresheners.

The smell of citrus is a natural refreshing one.

 Simple method:

Boil lemon peels in water

Allow the steam the circulation in your home.

Or

Combine lemon juice and water and spray it.

This is ideal in the kitchen and living rooms.

6. Improve Air Circulation

This is not always the issue of cleaning but of airflow.

Try this:

   • Open windows daily

   • Use exhaust fans

   • Let sunlight in

Odours of any kind that do get trapped are cleared away by fresh air.

7. Charcoal for Strong Odours

Charcoal is a natural odour absorber that is activated.

How to use:

   • Keep small bowls in corners

   • Located beside litter box/ pet area.

It is odour-less, yet including fragrance.

8. Clean Freaks On-the-Spot.

In case your pet urinates or vomits, wash him in a hurry.

Natural cleaning method:

   • Blot the area (don’t rub)

   • Spray vinegar solution

   • Sprinkle baking soda following drying.

   • Vacuum

This helps in avoiding long lasting smell.

9. Apply Essential Oils (With Caution).

Essential oils are also capable of cleaning your home, but safely.

Safe options:

   • Lavender

   • Chamomile

   • Cedarwood

Avoid: Powerful oils such as tea tree (in huge quantities may be of harm to pets)

Words of wisdom Never apply directly around pets and dilute.

10. Washing Carpets and Sofas Intensively.

Such places are the worst smelling.

Natural deep cleaning:

   • Sprinkle baking soda

   • Spray vinegar lightly

   • Let it dry

   • Vacuum thoroughly

Do this once in 2–3 weeks.

11. Use Indoor Plants

Plants are used to enhance the quality of air.

Good options:

   • Areca palm

   • Snake plant

   • Money plant

Instead, they do not eliminate tough odours at once but facilitate in freshness in the long run.

12. DIY Natural Room Freshener

As an alternative to chemical sprays use the following:

Recipe:

   • 1 cup water

   • 1 tablespoon baking soda

   • Few drops essential oil

Put into a good shake and slip around your house.

13. Keep Floors Clean Daily

Particularly in the Indian households, dust + pet fur = smell.

Simple habit:

   • Sweep daily

   • Mop vinegar water (once a day or every day)

This maintains a clean and sanitary home.

14. Don’t Forget Hidden Areas

Smell often hides in:

   • Corners

   • Under furniture

   • Curtains

   • Rugs

These areas should be frequently washed.

Common Mistakes to Avoid ❌

Sprays (may damage pets) with a strong combination of chemicals.

Small smells (they will become large) Ignored.

Failing to dry cleaned places in a good manner.

Excessive application of perfumes (only covers smell)

Final Thoughts ❤️

Keeping pets implies a bit of additional cleaning up but it is completely worth it, right?

Through the use of basic natural ingredients such as baking soda, vinegar, sunlight, and good house cleaning, you are able to keep your home clean without necessarily spending a lot of money.

I personally adopted such ways and believe me, my house looks clean, safer, and more comfortable not only to me but also to my pets.
